Resilience Problem? What Resilience Problem? U.S. Grids Respond

In January, federal regulators rejected Energy Secretary Rick Perry’s idea of subsidizing coal and nuclear plants to ensure the “resilience” of the U.S. power grid. They wanted to hear from the experts instead: the organizations that run America’s power systems.

Well, the grid operators have spoken. On March 9 they submitted a flurry of comments. They ranged from saying they’re already working on the issue to asserting it isn’t a problem at all. And in Texas, grid operators said don’t mess with us—it’s none of Washington’s business.
