The House will vote July 25 on a bill (H.R. 6082) that would replace President Obama’s proposed offshore oil and gas leasing plan for 2012-2017 with a much larger lease-sale schedule.
The House began debate July 24 on the Republican-sponsored bill and eight amendments that were made in order for debate by the House Rules Committee. Roll-call votes were postponed.
Republicans concede their bill will not be taken up by the Democrat-controlled Senate, but they see it as a key component of their goals to expand domestic energy production and to make energy policy an election-year campaign issue.
