Renewables Bill Aims To Cut Federal Permitting Time

Wind, solar, and geothermal energy development on federal land would speed through permitting required by federal environmental regulations under a bipartisan bill that has support from energy developers and environmental groups.

The regulations under laws like the Endangered Species Act and National Environmental Policy Act often drag out permitting for renewables projects on federal lands for more than a decade, the bill sponsor, Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.), said at a House Natural Resources subcommittee hearing July 25.
