Regan Asks Senate for More Funding to Increase EPA Enforcement

EPA Administrator Michael Regan appealed to senators on Wednesday for funding to hire more staff, in part because “we have a lot of laws and rules on the books that just aren’t being enforced.”

To illustrate, Regan said the Environmental Protection Agency can’t fully implement the Toxic Substances Control Act the way Congress has asked without more people. The agency has 200 fewer staff to review new chemicals than it did in 1988, he told the Senate Appropriations Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Subcommittee.
