Refiners Could Save Millions Under EPA Air Pollution Proposal

March 20, 2018, 7:42 PM

Industry would save millions of dollars under proposed “technical corrections” to work standards, record-keeping, and reporting requirements for controlling hazardous air pollution from refineries.

The changes, proposed by the EPA March 20, include venting requirements, flare operations, placement of fenceline monitors, and pressure release device work standards. The American Petroleum Institute and American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers asked for the changes in petitions over the standards set in 2015.

The proposed rule would save refineries up to $11.5 million annually and $77 million in capital investment, the Environmental Protection Agency said in a news release.
