Prospective Navajo Plant Owners to Get Questions About Cost Cutting

Arizona’s public utilities commission will ask the company trying to take over Navajo Generating Station to explain how it plans to sell coal-fired power for less than half what others have estimated.

Middle River Power, a private equity company based in Chicago, has said that if it’s successful in buying the Navajo plant, it will be able to sell power to the Central Arizona Project for $26.84 per megawatt hour through 2024. The Central Arizona Project, a large aqueduct system, is the plant’s biggest customer.
