Port of Tacoma, Wash., Bans New Fossil-Fuel Export Facilities

The Port of Tacoma Commission voted unanimously Dec. 21 to ban developing new facilities for the international export of bulk fossil fuel on port-owned property, although no such developments are in the works.

The resolution approved by the five-member commission is intended to send a message to potential fossil-fuel exporters not to consider Tacoma as a potential gateway to Asian markets.

No company is exporting fossil fuels from port-owned property and no such proposal is before the port, spokeswoman Tara Mattina told Bloomberg Environment.
