Poland Plans to Subsidize—Then Tax—Offshore Wind Energy

Poland will support development of offshore wind farms by subsidizing electricity sale prices, under a comprehensive legislative framework approved by lawmakers Wednesday.

The framework also includes—in the name of fair competition—a new tax designed to match real estate taxes paid by onshore renewable energy producers.

  • The Polish Senate on Wednesday unanimously endorsed the proposal to award fixed-price contracts for supplying electricity to give producers stability and incentive to invest.
