Pipeline Agency Catching Up With Industry Safety Practices

A federal safety agency’s proposed regulation would require changes that many companies have already made to reduce the risk of ruptured pipes, executives from Phillips 66 Pipeline LLC, Enterprise Products Partners LP, and Marathon Pipe Line LLC said Thursday.

The potential changes are the agency’s response to a 2010 incident involving a PG&E Corp. gas pipeline in San Bruno, Calif., where the operator took about 95 minutes to close valves and isolate the ruptured pipe.
