PFAS Probes, Rule Workup Spending Outlined in EPA Budget Plan

The EPA will spend nearly $6 million more this year than last to figure out when and how to control PFAS and develop rules to restrict them, according to a fiscal 2022 spending plan it recently submitted to Congress.

The Environmental Protection Agency’s plan, ordered by congressional appropriators, describes how its offices will spend $74.4 million addressing per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS.

The increase in PFAS-related spending, part of the total $9.6 billion the agency received in fiscal 2022, reflects both congressional appropriators’ directions on how to spend money and choices the agency made.
