Oregon Logging, Trails Project Should Be Blocked, Court Told

The Bureau of Land Management’s logging and recreational trails project in Oregon should be blocked and sent back to the agency due to its failure to comply with a previous court order, a federal magistrate judge said.

The U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon said in September 2019 that the agency needed to designate and preserve a Recreation Management Zone before timber harvesting. Though the agency designated trails and established an RMZ, it hasn’t taken meaningful steps to preserve the RMZ, according to Magistrate Judge Mustafa T. Kasubhai.
