One of World’s Top LNG Users Buys Into Offshore Wind Farms

Japan’s Jera Co., one of the world’s biggest buyers of liquefied natural gas, is purchasing stakes in offshore wind plants it says can operate in concert with gas-fired generation.

The joint venture between Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc. and Chubu Electric Power Co. said it’s buying about a quarter of the 172.8-megawatt Gunfleet Sands development off the coast of southeast England from Marubeni Corp. and almost a third of the 128-megawatt Formosa 1 project in Taiwan.
