Oil Leases Near Utah National Parks Face Local Opposition (2)

Local governments in eastern Utah are urging the Trump administration to cancel its plan to sell oil and gas leases near Utah national parks in September, saying it could put the region’s tourism economy at risk.

Officials in Grand County and the city of Moab, a tourist hub near the entrances to Arches and Canyonlands national parks, submitted comments to the federal Bureau of Land Management, calling for the agency to cancel about 80,000 acres of possible oil and gas leases that lie within county boundaries. The leases were nominated by a private developer.
