Offshore Wind Developer Agrees to Protect Endangered Whales

Vineyard Wind LLC and three environmental groups announced Jan. 23 they have agreed to protect endangered right whales during the construction of the company’s offshore wind farm off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts.

The company has agreed to avoid pile driving in open waters between January and the end of April to avoid conflicts with migrating whales, according to the agreement that Vineyard Wind struck with the Natural Resources Defense Council, Conservation Law Foundation and National Wildlife Federation.

Vineyard Wind also agreed to conduct acoustic monitoring for right whales and possibly halt construction...
