NOAA Opposes Bill Banning Coral-Bleaching Sunscreen Chemicals (1)

A bipartisan House bill that would ban sunscreen use in federally protected marine sanctuaries to protect coral reefs is opposed by the Trump administration, which says it has plans in place to effectively do the same thing.

Rear Adm. Tim Gallaudet, deputy administrator for the National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration, told a House Natural Resources panel Tuesday that the agency already has “comprehensive plans” designed to minimize the risk to coral reefs posed by various threats including sunscreen chemicals.
