No Need for Pollution Permit Under EPA Memo, Maui Tells Court

Maui County, Hawaii, told a federal judge that it should follow the EPA’s guidance on applying the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in County of Maui v. Hawaii Wildlife Fund and not require the county to get a federal water pollution permit.

The U.S. District Court for the District of Hawaii ruled that the county is required to get a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit for pollutants released into injection wells at a facility located a half mile from the ocean.
