Newsom Vetoes Overhaul of California Toxics Oversight Agency (1)

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) vetoed a bill Tuesday night that would have overhauled the state’s troubled toxics agency, saying the measure would change the governance structure but not make the fiscal reforms necessary to oversee hazardous waste sites.

AB 995 would have created an oversight board, examined new fee structures, added an ombudsman position, and taken other actions at the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC).
