Newsom Budget Calls for California Climate Efforts (2)

New California Gov. Gavin Newsom presented his proposed budget Jan. 10 with money for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, researching climate change, funding zero-emission vehicle purchases, new fire engines, a safe drinking water fund, and other initiatives.

Overall, the $209 billion budget is a 4 percent increase over last year, but factors in concerns about a possible withering economy, Newsom said during a news conference.

Unlike past years in which the average anticipated revenue growth was about 5 percent, this budget assumes 3.2 percent growth.
