New York ‘Green’ Constitutional Amendment Heads to Voters (1)

New York is one step closer to becoming the third state in the nation to add the right to clean air, clean water, and a “healthful” environment to its constitution.

The Assembly passed the legislation (S.528/A.1368) in an 122-to-27 vote on Monday after the state Senate approved the measure 48-to-14 on Jan. 12. It’s the second step in a years-long process to add what’s known as the Green Amendment to the state’s Bill of Rights. It will go before voters in November.
