Trump Climate Redo Leaves Coal-Plant Permit Rules in Place (4)

The EPA is backing away for now from a proposal to provide permitting flexibility to coal-fired power plants in a rewrite of the Obama-era plan to limit carbon dioxide emissions from existing power plants.

Senior agency officials told news reporters June 19 that the change to the Clean Air Act air permitting program, known as New Source Review, will be finalized separately for power plants several months down the road.

EPA will finalize the New Source Review rule for the power sector without taking additional comment or re-proposing it, EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler told news reporters.
