New Mexico Methane Limits Come as States ‘Fend for Themselves’

Air quality and climate change concerns are anchoring a push in New Mexico to restrict oil and gas emissions, as the Environmental Protection Agency rolls back methane regulations.

The potential changes come as oil and gas companies face low prices and low demand due in part to the coronavirus pandemic. Still, some environmentalists say the proposals don’t go far enough to protect the environment, while the industry is calling for flexibility.
