New Mexico Drilling Permits Unlawfully Approved, 10th Cir. Says

The Bureau of Land Management illegally approved 199 drilling permits in the Greater Chaco region of New Mexico, the Tenth Circuit ruled, in a win for environmental groups and local tribes.

Diné Citizens Against Ruining Our Environment, San Juan Citizens Alliance, Sierra Club, and WildEarth Guardians challenged the BLM’s decision to reaffirm the Trump administration’s issuance of oil and gas leases and approval of drilling permits, claiming that the agency didn’t take a hard look at the environmental impacts on culturally and environmentally significant land sacred to the Navajo Nation.
