New Hampshire Governor Asks Air Force to Pay for PFAS-Free Water

The U.S. Air Force is obligated to cover the cost of bringing clean drinking water to residents near a former base in New Hampshire contaminated with a fluorinated “forever chemical,” Gov. Chris Sununu (R) said.

The former Pease Air Force Base, in Portsmouth, N.H., is listed as a federal Superfund site by the federal Environmental Protection Agency because of a range of contamination, including high levels of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS, in groundwater. The Air Force has undertaken decades of cleanup at the base, which closed in 1991.
