Neurotoxic Pesticide Could Be Further Restricted in California

California regulators have taken the next step in tightening restrictions on a common pesticide linked the neurodevelopmental delays in children.

The state’s Department of Pesticide Regulation announced Sept. 19 it plans to propose to include chlorpyrifos in a list of toxic air contaminants, nearly two months after an independent panel of scientists recommended the listing. A “toxic air contaminant” is an air pollutant that may cause or contribute to increases in serious illness or death, according to California law.
