Nebraska Court Strikes Down Law
That Paved Way for Keystone XL Pipeline

A Nebraska court Feb. 19 struck down a 2012 law that paved the way for state approval of a route for TransCanada Corp.’s proposed Keystone XL Pipeline that would run from Canada to Texas Gulf Coast refineries (Thomson v. Heineman).

The bill enacted into law, LB 1161, created an expedited method for evaluating and approving proposed pipeline routes through the state, vesting in the state Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and the governor the power to grant final approval.
