Natural Gas Processors Must Report Chemical Releases to EPA

Natural gas processing facilities, starting next year, must report certain hazardous chemicals they release into the environment, under a final rule the EPA will publish Wednesday.

The rule (RIN 2070-AK16) implements part of a commitment the Environmental Protection Agency made in April to advance environmental justice by expanding the industries that report the emissions, effluent, disposal, and recycling of certain hazardous chemicals to the agency’s Toxics Release Inventory, or TRI. The agency also pledged to boost the number of chemicals that must be reported.
