N.Y. Looks to Mandate Boat Washing to Thwart Invasive Species

Boaters in New York could be required to wash their vehicles before using public waterways, as lawmakers look to prevent the spread of invasive species.

The state Legislature is poised to pass a bill (S.5937/A.7692), introduced May 16, that would provide a one-year extension of the current law that requires a voluntary inspection program, Environmental Conservation Committee chairs and bill sponsors state Sen. Todd Kaminsky (D) and Assemblyman Steve Englebright (D) said.
