Plumbing fixtures sold or installed in New York state must be water efficient starting in 2022, according to a bill signed by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo (D).
Cuomo approved the measure (A.2286/S.354) Dec. 6, which aligns the state’s water saving performance standards with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s 2006 voluntary “WaterSense” program guidelines.
The governor’s announcement came hours after President Donald Trump said he ordered a federal review of water efficiency standards in bathroom fixtures. Trump added that people in homes with low-flow appliances “are flushing toilets 10 times, 15 times as opposed to once.”
