Mississippi River Project’s Environmental Review OK, U.S. Says

The environmental review of a Mississippi River navigation project properly considered alternatives and addressed flooding and habitat concerns, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says in urging an Illinois federal court to reject arguments to the contrary.

The supplemental environmental impact statement for the project satisfies the National Environmental Policy Act, according to the filing in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois. The Corps also included a plan to mitigate the project’s adverse impacts as required by the Water Resources Development Acts of 1986 and 2007, the May 14 filing says.
