Military Must Clean Up PFAS to State Rules, House Panel Says (2)

The Defense Department would have to cleanup “forever chemicals” to state requirements under legislation a House committee is marking up Wednesday.

The House Armed Services Committee adopted the requirement on a 31-26 vote amending the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2022 (H.R. 4350). A final vote on the legislation may occur late Wednesday or early Thursday because of the heavy volume of amendments before the committee.

Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.) said she offered the amendment because the Environmental Protection Agency has failed to set cleanup standards for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS.
