MHI Vestas Picks Boston to Pursue U.S. Offshore Wind Projects

The U.S. offshore-wind industry is taking off, as turbine supplier MHI Vestas Offshore Wind A/S announced Jan. 11 it will open an office in Boston to serve as its U.S. headquarters.

The partnership between the world’s largest turbine maker, Vestas Wind Systems A/S, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. won a contract last year to supply the first large scale wind farm off the coast of Massachusetts.

The wind farm is under development near Martha’s Vineyard and will supply 800 megawatts to the region, kick-starting a new energy industry.
