Mexico Calls for Gas Storage Reserves as Reliance on U.S. Grows

Mexico’s rapidly growing reliance on Texas natural gas has fueled its appetite for a domestic emergency reserve to meet any short-term supply issues, a senior energy official said.

The storage system would help Mexico make sure it can meet demand in the face of periodic supply issues caused by storms or problems with pipelines and ports. The majority of gas from Texas flows across two border crossing points, and ports are the entrance point for liquefied natural gas.
