Meridian Energy’s North Dakota Air Permit Properly Issued

A North Dakota agency properly issued an air quality permit to Meridian Energy Group Inc. to construct a refinery, the state’s highest court said in a unanimous decision Monday.

The National Parks Conservation Association argued the North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality improperly issued Meridian a “minor source” permit when the refinery qualified as a potential “major source” of pollution. The group said the permit didn’t set enforceable limits for air pollutants, and the department didn’t adequately respond to its comments on the permit.
