Longtime Maryland Official Named EPA’s Mid-Atlantic Region Boss

A Maryland state environmental official will be the new head of the EPA’s mid-Atlantic region, spanning Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, Delaware, the District of Columbia, and seven federally recognized tribes.

One of Adam Ortiz’s top priorities as the Environmental Protection Agency’s Region 3 administrator will be managing the restoration of the Chesapeake Bay. He also will help to oversee environmental protection in Appalachian coal country, fracking hot spots in Pennsylvania, and Superfund and brownfield revitalization throughout the region.
