Long-Term Emission Target for Global Flights Approved by UN Body

A UN body will aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from international aviation to net-zero by 2050 and will use a new emissions limit for its flagship climate change program.

The target’s adoption by the International Civil Aviation Organization’s 193-country assembly on Friday in Montreal comes after years of debate over what goal to choose and criticism the organization isn’t doing enough to reduce the impact global flights have on climate change.
