California Dry Cleaner Sued Over Alleged Hazardous Waste Leak

A Long Beach, Calif., commercial real estate developer sued the owner of a small dry cleaning business alleging it needs to pay for the clean up costs of hazardous waste in the soil and groundwater of property adjacent to the developer.

Ryanik Boca River Long Beach Partners LLC sued Debra Carroll, the owner of the property where Spend a Buck Cleaners is located. The facility stored hazardous waste—like tetrachloroethylne and volatile organic compounds—in dry cleaning equipment, storage tanks, dispensers, and other receptacles, according to the complaint, filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the Central District of California.
