Logging in Oregon Park Halted for Trails, Fire Hazard Report

The Bureau of Land Management can’t allow logging in a natural area outside Eugene, Ore., before it traces out bike trails and designates timber preservation zones alongside them, a federal judge ruled.

The agency must also issue an updated environmental assessment that adequately discloses and evaluates the likely increase in fire risks to nearby communities once the proposed logging of 100 acres of mature timber stands is finished, Judge Michael McShane said Sept. 18 for the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon.
