Legal Fight Over National Monuments Will Stay in D.C. Federal Court

A federal court set the stage for more legal jousting over President Donald Trump’s decision to reduce the size of the Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments.

Plaintiffs in five lawsuits led by environmental activists and Indian tribes won a decision Sept. 24 that their cases will be heard in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia before Judge Tanya S. Chutkan.

Federal defendants had sought to transfer the litigation to the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah, the state with both of the national monuments.
