Landfills Could Get Extra Two Years To Meet Obama Methane Limits

The waste industry is getting its wish: The EPA is formally proposing to delay Obama-era methane limits for landfills into 2019.

Environmental Protection Agency Acting Administrator Andrew Wheeler on Oct. 23 signed a proposal to move back the deadline for states to submit plans detailing how they will meet the limits on methane, a potent greenhouse gas, from municipal solid waste landfills.

The Obama administration’s rule required states to submit plans to strengthen pollution controls by May 30, 2017. The new proposal pushes that deadline to Aug. 29, 2019. The EPA said just three ...
