Kinder Morgan Unit’s ‘Climate-Friendly’ Plan Gets FERC Nod (1)

A Kinder Morgan subsidiary is embarking on a first-of-its-kind proposal to ship and trade “climate-friendly” natural gas along a 11,760-mile pipeline after federal energy regulators approved its proposal late last week.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission authorized Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co., a unit of the Houston energy firm, to provide shippers the option to designate certain gas “producer-certified gas"—a term describing gas sourced according to certain environmental or social criteria.

The pipeline transports fuel from the Northeast to consuming regions from New York to the Texas Gulf Coast.
