Keurig Faces Certified Class in Suit Saying Pods Not Recyclable

Keurig Green Mountain Inc. now faces a certified class of California consumers who allege it deceptively promotes single-serve coffee pods as “recyclable,” after a federal court approved the named plaintiff and said common issues dominate the suit.

California Kathleen Smith alleges that even if the pods made from polypropylene (#5) plastic are collected in more than 60% of U.S. communities, they still aren’t recyclable because their small size prevents accurate sorting or separation. There are also no end markets for them, she alleges.
