Judge Won’t Toss Out Obama-Era Water Rule Nationwide

An Obama-era rule on the reach of the nation’s water pollution law will remain in effect across half the country after a federal judge in Texas declined to halt it nationwide.

Several states had asked Judge George C. Hanks Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas to halt the Waters of the U.S. rule, or WOTUS. They had argued the rule, which defines the reach of the Clean Water Act, goes beyond the federal government’s authority.
