Judge Rejects $1.7 Million Settlement Over Pesticide Disposal

Moyer Products Inc.'s propsed $1.7 million deal to settle allegations it contaminated a San Jose, Calif., property were rejected by a federal judge because it doesn’t designate any funds for cleaning up the site.

Maxim I Properties purchased the site in 2003. Nearly a decade later,sued Moyer—a pesticide and fertilizer business which operated the site for more than 30 years—as well as other previous owners, tenants, and third parties involved in transportation or disposal of hazardous waste at the property after learning of the site’s previous usage.
