Israeli Startup Says Its Toilet Can Power Stove

An Israeli company is offering a domestic toilet system that it called the first of its kind in turning human waste into methane cooking gas.

HomeBioGas already sells a compact food waste digester unit in more than 100 countries, a tent-like unit that sits outside a home and can convert food waste into methane cooking gas and fertilizer through a natural bacterial process.

Its new Bio-Toilet—a standard-looking commode with a manual pump flush—can connect to the same digester. The process needs no electricity, and the toilet can take normal paper, the company said.
