Interior Official Misused Post to Help Relative: Watchdog (1)

Top Interior Department official Douglas Domenech misused his office for private gain when he tried to help a family member get a job at the EPA, the department’s watchdog concluded in a new report released Friday.

Domenech, who has served as assistant secretary for insular and international affairs since 2017, used his title and position to improperly influence the Environmental Protection Agency hiring process on behalf of a family member, the Inspector General found.

The watchdog also dinged Domenech for promoting a separate family member’s business to a high-ranking EPA official.
