Industry Hoping Pesticide Program Renewal Stays in House Farm Bill

The pesticide industry is for now pinning its hopes on the House farm bill to preserve a registration program allowing the EPA to collect certain fees from pesticide manufacturers.

The Pesticide Registration Improvement Act—which will expire Sept. 30 without reauthorization—is the EPA’s registration service fee system that the industry says provides an easier implementation of pesticide rules.

The House is expected to vote on the farm bill the week of May 14, but the Senate could jeopardize the PRIA extension by cutting it from its own version of the bill.
