A federal court in Florida dismissed claims in a lawsuit alleging that the annual burning of sugar cane fields caused health problems, finding that the plaintiffs lacked standing, but it left the door open to further arguments in the case.
The plaintiffs in the proposed class action were granted leave to replead some points from their case in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. The plaintiffs have until May 22 to file a second amended complaint.
