Idaho’s Anti-'Patent Troll’ Law Challenged in Federal Appeal

A patent monetization company and its affiliate are appealing an Idaho federal judge’s order that required the companies post a $8 million bond to keep a patent suit against semiconductor maker Micron Technology Inc. alive.

Longhorn IP LLC and Katana Silicon Technologies LLC each took initial steps Thursday to challenge the decision, which upheld an Idaho law aimed at deterring abusive behavior by patent owners, including through a bond requirement.
