Hurricane Harvey’s Lessons Foreshadow Future Disaster Challenges

Hurricane Harvey opened the eyes of many as to how climate change can supercharge storms and complicate efforts to plan for and respond to natural hazard-triggered incidents, international environmental officials said.

Hitting Texas and the Southeastern U.S. last August, Harvey’s torrential rains resulted in flooding that in turn caused chemicals stored at a Houston plant to become unstable, explode, and catch fire, leading to injuries and property damage.
