House Republicans Push for Faster Action
On Permitting, Drilling in Gulf of Mexico

One year after President Obama lifted his moratorium on deepwater drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, in response to the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill, House Republicans charged the administration with perpetuating a de facto moratorium on offshore drilling.

“While I recognize that some permits indeed are being issued,” said House Natural Resources Committee Chairman Doc Hastings (R-Wash.), “there are facts and data that demonstrate recovery is moving at a pace that continues to hamper job creation and the economy.”
